Makato watched and flinched, as if he were the one in pain, when she fell. He walked closer to her, wondering if she would be able to make it, would he be able to make it? Lets try anyways. Stopping just before the she-wolf, Makato turned his head down towardes her. Nodding towards he body Makato asked his question carefully. "Do you mind? If I pick you up?" He already had the shortest route mapped out in his head. Visuallizing only one fallen tree, he could easily walk around it. He studied her, looking for the easiest place to lay her on his back. Although he had no intentions on leaving her, if the femme said no to this, he would be forced to call Placid here.
The orange brute bent closer to her, asking her quietly if he could lift her. She but her tongue. She knew she should let him, but it would hurt. How else would they get to somewhere safe with the cold clouds over head. She took a deep breath and nodded, hoping there was a way she could make this easier on herself a the brute. She wasn't going to be a light load, carrying a good couple of extra pounds. Right now though, she was in so much pain her could have torn her throat out. She really didn't give a coyote's rump about what he did now. She nodded again, trying to get him to hurry up.
the past is a wonderful place to visit, but not to stay
As soon as the femme nodded, Makato gentley lifted her up and set her down on his back. He seemed unaffected by her weight. "Make yourself comfortable." He waited for her to shift, then spoke once again. "Hold on, anyway that you can, I don't want you falling off." Makato was completely honest when he spoke, and it showed in his voice. He started off at a trot, making sure she wasn't going to fall off. Once he was sure she was safe, Makato sped up and continued to gain speed. He kept checking over his shoulder to make sure that the she-wolf was okay. "What's your name?" He was trying to keep her talking, so he knew she wasn't dead, he wouldn't ever forgive himself if he was the cause of this pretty, petite yet very swollen femme. "Where are you from? How are you feeling? I know it hurts to talk, but please just try, even if you just grunt." his voice was strained as he jumped over the fallen log, he could feel the pupd in her stomach moving frantically. His muscles were starting to get sore, and he still had a ways to go. "Hold on tight" Makakto shouted as he put on a burst of speed, he could see the begining of their- no Placid's territory. He kept having to remind himself about that. She had her own mate now. Don't stop now! your almost there! Makato kept repeating this in his head. He continued on at a sprint, his legs burning, gasping for breathe, bursting into his home territorym Makato ran to the sleeping chamber. Set down the she-devil and yelled for placid. "PLACID! HELP!" his voice was raspy.
Mausi really did not like this at all. She was bouncing around. She'd rather die. A whimper escaped her muzzle as she griped the brutes neck with her teeth. Her name? She wa barely able to speak, but she forced it out. "Mau.. Mausi. But you can call me Mau or Mai," the femme whimpered, her voice weak and raspy as she attempted to amuse the brute. She grunted in response to his other questions, her body tired, her throat dry. As soon as she was placed on the forest floor, her breaths became raspy and painful. This was too early!! They were primis, she realized fearfully.
Placid was laying in her den with Yiska when her name was practically screamed by Makato. She jumped to her paws, giving Yiska a quick lick before she sprinted into the den where Makato and an unknown female was. "Makato?! Is this.. She-wolf your mate?" Placid asked in shock. She never knew!! So these were.. Makatos pups that were being born?! Placid glanced at the maiden, to see her shaking her head. Then who was she? Confusion swept over Placid's facade as she realized the femme needed help. Placid gave a quiet growl at Makato and snapped at him, a wordless way of warning him to get out.
Mai was in shock when a petite lupesse came in, and when she realized it was the Alphesse, and her final expression of shock when she was mistaken for the red wolf, Makato's, mate! She gave a shake of her head, before he shocked expression was replaced with pain. Her look at the Alphesse begged for help, to rid of this pain.
Placid nuzzled the terrified dove, willing her to push, to let her instincts take over. Her pups would not survive otherwise. It was painful, she knew, but it needed to happen. Plaid groomed the maidens face, cleaning the sweat and calming her. The poor dear was petrified!!
Yiska leaped up at the same time as Placid when he heard Makato's frantic cry for the alphess. The worst thoughts came to his mind. Had a bear or cougar invaded the pack's densite? Had he gotten food poisoning from spoiled meat from the store? Had his den caved in? Whatever it was, he had to help. Yiska was the alpha now. It was his job, along with Placid, to lead and protect the pack and all of its members, including sweet, playful Makato. He darted out of the den close behind Placid.
A rather confusing sight met the brown wolf as he entered the beta's den. A small, unfamiliar female wolf laid on the floor, apparently in great pain, but with no wounds he could see. Being a male, and therefore unfamiliar with the whelping process, he had to gather what was going on from Placid's rough words. A growl rose in his chest. Makato had mated? In secret? How heinous! Only alphas were supposed to mate. He should have at least have asked permission. But Yiska did not miss the shake of the stranger's head, so his irritation with his subordinate faded. If this was not Makato's mate, then he had brought a stranger in need into safety and possibly saved her life. In Yiska's mind, there was nothing more honorable. But the den was crowded and he knew this female stuff would be best left to the females, so he tried to use his body, which was no more tall but more massive than Makato's, to corral the beta toward the entrance of the den. "Let's give them their space," he said to Makato, and before he left said to his mate, "We'll be here if you need anything." He stepped outside.
"Okay, Makato," he began in his most reasonable and kind voice, "there's nothing you can do for her now. Placid will do her best to take care of her. Why don't you tell me what happened."
Makato watched the femme and made comforting noises, until Placid came into the chamber. Her visage a place of shock. Yiska was right behind her, his expression turning from shock to anger. Why? They thinks she is my mate.. That these are my pups! No no no no... Makato shoke his head. How could Placid think he would ever do that to her? He had said he had no mate... He also thought it was obvious by the way he acted around her. Guess not....
Placid snapped and growled at Makato. A paniced and hurt expression spread across his face. She had never done this to him before, he was slightly hurt by her aggressive behaviour... Then again Makato didn't want to watch pups be born, so he made his way, painfully, towards the entrance, looking back and flashing the new femme a quick smile for luck, he avoided Placid's face, ignored her even. Makato walked out, seeing Yiska waiting for him Makato watched him cautsiously. "Hello" Slightly bowing his head Makato looked at the new Alpha. "Okay Makato. There is nothing you can do for her now. Placid will try her best to take care of them. Why don't you tell me what happened."the Alpha had asked, and how could you deny the Alpha? Makato stared at him, showing no emotion, but their was no trust for this male, in his eyes, hit showed this alittle. Deciding it would br best just to tell him, Makato started his story. " I was walking down the mountain, when I heard a sorrow-filled howl. I started towards it, curious, I came nose to nose with a Mai. She was in pain and hurt. So I asked her if it was all right for me to carry her up the mountian. So that's what I did. Carring her up the mountain, I hoped Mai wouldn't fall off, or give birth on my back" Makato shuddered at the idea. " As soon as she was up in the den I called for Placid." Makato decided he wouldn't tell Yiska about the wolf corpse, he still didn't trust the new Alpha, not enough to tell him something that may be important, plus he liked telling Placid things first.
As the males disappeared, Mai relaxed. The alphesse was singing a song without lyrics soothing her. Finally, she let go of her consciousness and let her instincts take over. Placid sat back while the first puppy was born, watching as Mausi, like a natural, cleaned him and led him to nurse. He was big, and he barely made a noise. Placid watched in awe, remembering her pups a long time ago, it felt at least. She remembered the feeling of their soft bodies, and the joy she felt. She missed having pups. This femme and her pups will probably help dim that want for them.
The next pup was still-born, and Mai was heart broken. Of course, there was always one. But so was the next one. But the next one was a female, who needed a little nudge to the milk, the next female squirming relentlessly while Mai tried to clean her. The last one was a male, and he appeared still-born at first, bit even breathing for the first minute, but then he gasped and went straight to nurse. Placid smiled at the tiny pups, before she moved out of the den. As soon as she saw Yiska, she smiled a sweet smile, "Good. Six, two were still. Two males, two females. She needs time," Placid reported easily, her voice soft and joyous at the thought of pups.

the past is a wonderful place to visit, but not to stay
Yiska nodded at the story. It wasn't very remarkable except that Makato had carried that wolf all the way up the mountain. That was impressive. "Good job," he said, hoping that praise would alleviate some of the tenseness he could feel between he and the beta. Yiska didn't want any discord between any members of the pack. In fact, the feeling was so alien to the brown wolf, whose first pack had been so peaceful and...harmonious, that he felt a little uneasy in the presence of Makato. But he could handle it. "You must be tired. Rest if you like, or eat, or stay with us and wait. Whatever you want."Yiska waited patiently for word from Placid about the pups or the female. He could hear small cries from inside the dark den, so he knew that at least some were okay. He had mixed feelings about these pups. Right now they were innocent and deaf and blind, but in a few years they would be competition for Yiska if he was still around, or even Yiska's children. The alpha would not allow these pups to take what was his.Several minutes later Placid appeared Yiska stood, anxious and curious to hear about what had happened. He breathed a sigh of relief at her answer. "That's wonderful," he murmered.
Makato could feel the tenssion between him and Yiska, it seemed to be thickening. He just stared t Yiska, shook his head slightly and cleared his throught. "Thank you. I'm fine, I'll wait for the news about Mai." Makato took one last look at this new male wolf, and turned towards the den. He didn't want to get up and leave, he knew the news would get back to Placid, and he didn't want to hurt his only living friends feelings. He would try and be civilized to Yiska, for Placid's sake, it wasn't her fault.
A short while later Placid came out with the answer, Makato blew a sigh of releif, he didn't want it to be his fault that the pups had died, he didn't want this wolf that he barely knew to hate him without even a chance to get to know him. Rising to his feet Makato asked his next question. "Can I go see them...?" He didn't want it to sound like he wanted to see Mai, he did, but not in a more than supportive way. Makato loved pups, and liked goofing around with them. He had taken a step towards the den, he just realized that it was his sleeping chamber. So much for sleeping....
Placid could feel the tension between the two males, but she couldn't quite pinpoint why. Both of the males looked relieved to see that the pups were fine and healthy. She smiled and sat down next to Yiska, cuddling up to him. "Go ahead, just ask her first. She may even let you sleep in your den..." She femme grinned and took a glance inside the den.
Mai sat in the den, nuzzling and cleaning each pup. She glanced up to see the orange wolf standing just outside, looking in. She smiled a tired, strained smile. "Come in," She sighed. This was hopefully the last visitor.

the past is a wonderful place to visit, but not to stay
Makato nodded to Placid, not looking at her and her mates cuddling. Stepping closer to the chambers entrance, Makato poked his head inside. "You don't mind if i come in, do you?" Makato asked kindly. When she replied, with a yes, Makato walked into his den, relieved to be away from the cuddling couple. He had never really liked it when others were all go-go-ga-ga with each other, why couldn't they be like that when no one was around? Shaking those thoughts out of his head, he looked at Mai's eyes studing them. "How you feeling?" Makato asked softly, and sincerly. His kind carmel eyes observed, Mai. Deciding to wait until she answered those questions, before he looked at the new puppies. Makato thought that wolf puppies always looked strange when they are first born, kind of alien like. Though he still liked them all the same, he couldn't stop making the same observation each time. But that quickly changes into an absolutly adorable stage.
Yiska pressed his nose to the top of Placid's head as she came close, and watched as Makato disappeared into the den. He wondered if Mai would stay long, or even permanently. Maybe she would take a liking to Makato, and maybe that would distract Makato from losing Placid to Yiska. He reminded himself of how he had felt when he had thought that Makato had mated with Mai, and hoped he wouldn't have to deal with that too near in the future. Besides, Mai had her own pups now. She shouldn't be worrying about having more. "Let's leave them alone," he said to Placid, and stood, waiting for the white alphess.
Placid smiled joyously as Yiska stopped to wait for her. He was waiting for her! The femme was overjoyed as she made her way over to her mate, touching her nose to his shoulder before she began to move way, toward their den. They would leave Mai and Makato alone, in hope they would at least befriend each other, and, possibly, Mai would join the pack.
The exhausted she-wolf watched as an orange wolf pad into her den, his soft caramel colored eyes studying hers, the same eyes that had studied her beaten frame when he had thought she had killed Farkas. She shuddered at the thought of how brutal the corps was. She nodded to the male as he padded closer. Protective instincts took over, and it took more than enough power to resist from ripping his throat out. She nodded, "Fine, tired and.. In pain. But ecstatic at the same time," The weak she-wolf replied, before she smiled and nudged her pups into a different, more comfortable position, "Would you like to come look at them?" She offered quietly, trying to keep her protective instincts from murdering him.

the past is a wonderful place to visit, but not to stay
Makato watched as her muscles tightened, he knew it must be taking a lot of effort not to jump to her feet and protect her pups. Lowering his tail, to show no sign of threat. Makato studied Mai, he could tell by her amber eyes, that she was very tired, and sore. When she offered for him to come closer, Makato resisted the urge to bound over, slowly making his way to the pups he watched their movments, noticing that two weren't moving, or even breathing. Sadness crept into his visage. Carefully pushing the images away, Makato looked at the pups with happiness for the ones that lived, and sadness for the ones that died. "I would like that very much, I always loved pups. They remind me of my little sister.Have you already thought of names?" He watched Mai and the pups carefully, with interest. "Is there anything that you need? Water or food?" Makato wanted to help in anyway that he could.
She watched his body position tell her that he was not dangerous, and she could tell he was trying to make this as easy on her as possible. She smiled wearily, watching as he made his way toward her and her pups slowly, cautiously. A soft smile split wider on her maw, and she moved her body a tiny bit for them to be more visible. She caught a quick glimpse of sadness on his visage when he glimpsed the two still-born's, before it disappeared. She sighed quietly. His little sister, eh? She tilted her head in confusion, "Who's your little sist--" she began, before her eyes widened in fear, and she flinched back, attempting to shield her pups and her face, "Please don't hurt me!" she cried, remembering that if she was too bold about her feelings, Farkas would have beat her, adding just another bruise, another scar.
After a moment of shielding herself, she answered his question. "Yes, I do. For the biggest boy, I'm calling him Cailean. For the second girl, Catori, and the third pup Cheveyo. For the last and final boy, the runt, I'm calling him Ceaser, She smiled, nudging each pup in order of their names. She shook her head politely, refusing his offer of food or water.
